Youth & Young Adults

2PY MISSION STATEMENT

The youth ministry program of Second Presbyterian Church exists to create an environment of love and acceptance where youth fellowship, learn, worship, and serve together, and a spiritual foundation is developed that will inspire them to lead a life-long commitment with Christ.

2PY CORE VALUES

Christ-centered

Create opportunities to know Christ and follow His example of love, humility, acceptance and compassion.

Joyful

Create a fun, engaging community where youth experience joy through Christ-centered relationships and service to others.

Faithful

Create consistent, reliable, stable programming that honors our tradition and develops lasting relationships.

YOUTH MINISTRY

For Youth and Young Adults

The youth ministry at Second Presbyterian Church (2PY) is designed to offer ministry activities and opportunities for any and all interested youth from 6th to 12th grades. As a community of God’s love, we strive to create a fun and nurturing environment where youth actively explore their faith. We seek to make our youth group a place where everyone is welcomed, loved and accepted for who they are.

Contact Nathan Sautter with any questions about our youth, college-age and young adult activities. If any of your contact information changes or if you wish to be removed from our youth database, contact Karen Elliot, or call the church office: (502) 895-3483  Ext. 215.

The Leap to Dedication

Eighth grade students are invited to participate in the Second Presbyterian confirmation program. Over the course of the school year, students explore their faith and their relationship with God as they learn about Christianity and the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Each Sunday morning from September through May, the confirmands gather from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Youth Ministry Suite. The class begins with a shared breakfast and worship time with the other youth classes at Cafe 907.

PROGRAMS

Getting Involved and Having Fun

The Middle School group meets every Sunday from 4:30pm -6:00pm in the youth suite for a time of fellowship, games and fun. High school youth meet once a month for a fun evening planned by their very own youth council. The program runs from September through April. Each week features special programming – click below to check our calendar and registration forms.

In addition to Sunday morning classes and Sunday evening fellowship, Second Pres offers other programs for youth including sports, trips, and fundraisers.

  • Open gym: From November through March, all 6th through 12th graders are invited to come to the Great Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday nights to hang out, shoot some hoops, and share in a devotional time.
  • Basketball: Second Pres sponsors a middle school and a high school team in the youth league at Beargrass Christian Church. These teams are parent-led, and practice begins in November. The games are on Saturdays at Beargrass from January through March.
  • Trips and retreats: Our high school students are encouraged to make the trip to the Montreat (NC) Conference Center for a week in June, meeting with other youth groups in the beautiful Smokey Mountains. The middle schoolers gather with their peers from other churches at the Massanetta Springs Conference Center for an extended weekend in June in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. Second Pres also creates our own trips, including an annual Ski Retreat, coming up in January!
